"Has in the beginning, on the reverse the arms of Herzog Julius dating from 1573, and a piece of parchment relating its acquisition on 22 August 1573. Each parchment sheet comprises 3 text columns of 48 lines each. The script is Ashkenazi square probably of the late 14th century. Ruling by plummet. Sheet no 11 is of different contemporary script. Sheets 25 and 36 are torn. Zu Noviss 149 2°; ¶The brown handled Thora scroll : Comprises of three sections of different hands. ¶SECTION I: Written in 15-16 century square Sephardi script, 60-61 lines per column, 3-4 columns per sheet. Ruling by stylus from the back. Columns are numberd in ink from 1 to 93. Scroll in bad condition. ¶SECTION II: Written in 17-18 century square Ashkenazi script, 60 lines per column, 3-4 columns per sheet, sheets are sewn together. Parchment is clear and white, ruling by stylus on front. ¶SECTION III: 34 columns, written in square Ashkenazi script of the 16th century, 60 lines per column, 3-4 columns per sheet." |
